Harry Gunnison Brown Fund

Friends and colleagues established this fund to honor Harry Gunnison Brown upon his retirement in 1951. Your gift will be used to support the development of the department by funding lectureships, providing awards to outstanding economic students, and funding other activities that further the mission of the department.

Brown studied business at Williams College and The Ohio State University and went on to earn his doctorate in 1909 from Yale University. In 1915, Brown started teaching at the University of Missouri and became an economics professor in 1918. During his career, he was department chair and was later appointed dean of the College of Business and Public Administration from 1934-36 and 1942-46. Brown was a nationally known monetary authority and a leading proponent of the land-value tax as a revenue source.

All contributions count toward membership in the Jefferson Club.
