Sometimes we are fortunate to meet an educator whose energy, compassion and brilliance affects each person she teaches. Jennifer Wilson was such a person. As an educator, her warmth and effervescence drew students in, but her constant challenges led them to think more deeply, work harder and stretch in ways that they never thought possible. Since 2005, she has worked at the University of South Carolina, where she amassed more experiences than many people do in a lifetime. Tragically, we lost Jennifer in 2014. Friends of Jen are creating a scholarship, to “pay forward” Jen’s legacy of literacy advocate and remarkable teacher. This scholarship would benefit a literacy doctoral student interested in social justice. There is no better way to recognize Jennifer’s impact on so many lives, than by helping those who will follow in her footsteps.
