The Center for Health Ethics at the University of Missouri has a mission to improve the health of the public through the development of patient-centered programs related to ethics and professionalism in education, research, clinical service and organizational performance. Specifically, the Center provides an Ethics Consult Service at no cost. Patients, families and health care providers are often faced with difficult value-laden decisions which emerge in health care. Many of these decisions have complex medical, legal, psychological, religious and social dimensions that can lead to conflict or uncertainty. The Consult Service assists patients, families and health care team members in sorting through the ethical aspects of making difficult health care decisions. Gifts to the Center for Health Ethics will help support the Consult Service, educational offerings, research activities, student involvement, and activities related to enhancing the mission of the Center.
